FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Ohio Valley RR Company selected by NCDOTNCDOT selects Ohio Valley Railroad Company to Negotiate for Lease of P&N24 JAN 08 -- We are pleased to announce that the NCDOT has selected Ohio Valley Railroad Company and its Carolina Central Railway Division to join in negotiations with the NCDOT Rail Division to create a public-private partnership to reactivate the Piedmont & Northern Railway. The P&N was at one time referred to as the "Great Electric Railway of the South". This railway was founded in 1910 by James Buchannan Duke. Ownership of the line was assumed by the Seaboard Coast Line in 1969. NCDOT acquired portions of the line circa 1991. Today the NCDOT owns the Cedar Street Yard (Milepost .75 to 1.52) in Mecklenburg County and the mainline from Mount Holly to Gastonia (Milepost 11.39 to 23.0) and the 3 mile long Belmont Branch.
